A SENSE-ational Day at I.C.E. Camp

Today we took a whiff of the past, filling our nostrils with the scents of our childhood. We connected smells and tastes to memories and events before learning about expressive and reflective writing. Miss Mari told us about how writing is like shopping, “you can try on a lot of things, but you don’t have to get it all.” Her lesson had us focused deeply on revision and experimentation. We played around with figurative language, speed adding devices to our freewrites. She really put us through our paces because, as she said, “Writers do. they are verbs not nouns. They do. If you’re not doing, you’re waiting. You’re not a writer, you’re a waiter and you ain’t getting any tips.”

The afternoon was quiet and hardworking as almost every camper finished polishing an anthology piece. We helped our revision buddies, edited with our friends, and shared with our groups. Some of us even worked on those highly anticipated anthology covers. We all look forward to voting on them tomorrow!

Quote of the Day: “It’s about my dislike of stairs.” -Riley

Lesson Learned: “You can express our feelings in anything even food; different aspects equal things.” – Rikhil
